Some wonderful news...

Yesterday Allan went up to the MEPS station to take his physical as was scheduled so he could finish signing up for the Navy.  Unfortunately the system that all branches use to schedule physicals is brand new and full of glitches so he was told that he wasn't actually scheduled.  The poor guy wasted his morning going up there to be told he couldn't do his physical and would have to wait another day.  He came back and he and the recruiter sat down and figured out a plan to get the physical done.  They scheduled him for today and printed out the paper with the confirmation that he was indeed scheduled. I spent a good while praying that this would work out.
Today he went back up to the MEPS station and I hadn't heard from him in 7 hours and I had my fingers crossed that he must have been taken in, he would have texted me otherwise. I finally got a text message that he passed his physical and mental evaluation. Whew! Step one taken care of! Next he went in to discuss career options with a recruiter at the station. I was biting my nails waiting for the news of what he'll be signing up for, crossing my fingers that he'll be able to do what he wants.  Awhile later I got a text message informing me that he did get the hospital corpsman position that he had be wanting ever since he started looking into the military.  Our prayers have finally been answered! He gets shipped out in 3 months and it's definitely bittersweet. We only have 3 months left together without any military interference, but at the same time, it's 3 months until Allan gets to start what he's been wanting to do since I first met him. I'm so happy and so very excited for this new chapter in our lives.
On another note, I had my cake decorating class today and my homework that was due was to make a kid's birthday cake. I don't have any children so my first thought was to make a cake for my niece or nephew. My nephew's 1st birthday is coming up and I remembered that he liked jungle animals like lions and tigers so I based my cake for him.

The full cake with lions and tigers and a star border. It's hard to tell but the "Happy Birthday Gavin" is piped with individual stars, very intensive work.

 Lions and...
Tigers! All are hand piped, the tigers look a little strange, but it was my first try.

2 months and counting

So Allan tried calling yesterday to see if he could get scheduled for his physical so he can actually enlist and as usual, we got pushed to a different week. Currently it's been 2 months since he took the ASVAB and still hasn't gotten a physical date. I'm very ticked off that they're taking high school seniors and college graduates no matter when they sign up above people who have been waiting for 2 freaking months! We're just going to have to keep calling every week to see if we can get him squeezed in. Fingers crossed!

On the other hand I figure I'll add in the cake part of A Life of Cake and Kitties. I'm in a cake decorating class currently and we have a cake decorated every week due for homework. I figure I'll post the pictures here because man is it not as easy as it looks.
Last week the homework that was due was a cake with side embellishments and a border.

So I did a basketweave and shell border. Pretty easy and fast for me, but very pretty looking.

This week we have an 'adult' style birthday cake due. It sounds inappropriate, but! it's just a cake with roses and cursive 'Happy Birthday'

Here is the final product with a rope border on the bottom and top. My cursive got a little off on the day part of the happy birthday.

Here is the rope border at the bottom of the cake.

This week we're practicing children birthday cakes so that should be fun with lots of color!
I'll keep everyone updated about Allan and the Navy.

To Start it Off...

To me, the first post is always the most awkward so I'll just throw out some good news we got today.

Allan got some news from the recruiter that the spot for the medical position was still open for him and that his physical was set for Thursday. I was seriously at the point of going downstairs and demanding the recruiter give us a date. He's been slacking on that. So I'm so excited for Allan to get the position he wants! Some serious good news today. If all goes well (knock on wood) then he gets sent out in a couple months and we'll be getting married in a mooooonth!! So excited!

This good news was seriously needed today, it hasn't been the best few days. I was picking up a bottle that fell out of my car and I whacked my head on the car door, resulting in a minor concussion. Never a fun feeling when you work at my horrible job.

I'm looking forward to keeping everyone updated on what goes on in our life now that we start this big chapter in our lives.
