Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! How was everyone's weekend? I feel like I haven't written anything in ages, but I won't bore you all with my uneventful week. This weekend on the other hand was very exciting, plus the end of the week is when I tend to get Allan's letters so a new update on him as well!

Saturday was pretty quiet and relaxing. The sun was shining and it was warm, which usually I don't mind, but it's October already, let's feel some chill! I sat out in my mom's backyard with her to get some color on my blindingly white pale legs since I had a photoshoot the next day. I got a letter from Allan as well so I spent a good part of my evening curled up on my couch reading his letter and missing him (cue awww lol).

Sunday was my busy, but still amazing day. My friend Salena and I went got all dolled up and went to our old high school to do a photoshoot. I'm so excited to see the finished products because they're absolutely awesome. She's an amazing photographer so you can't go wrong taking pictures with her. After our photoshoot I went home and changed out of my stilettos for my beat up Vans to go shooting at my "big brother's" house. It was definitely a much needed stress reliever and who doesn't love to hold a gun in their hand and shoot the crap out of stuff? Wanna see the gun I shot?

Freaking awesome right?
As for my man in boot camp, he's still struggling with his breathing problems. He got his x-ray back that was 100% clear and on Monday (09/26) he had a special test to check the air capacity in his lungs to rule out asthma. When I got a call from him (yes, a call!) I think he said he'd get the results on Thursday. His voice sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher's (whaa whaa whaa), but as I haven't gotten a call yet to say they're sending him home I think he's free and clear, which I had already assumed. That's unfortunately all the news I really get from him since that is pretty prevalent in his mind. Hopefully I'll hear some more news from him soon!

Letters, a Phone Call, and New Hair

Hello everyone! How was your weekend?

This weekend my friend was house sitting so I stayed the weekend with her and we had an uneventful sleepover. As in the two of us passed out by 10. Could I be more boring?

Saturday I ran a bunch of errands with my friend from L.A. who moved up here for college. Now, if none of you know what UCSC is like think trees and you've got UCSC down. Going from L.A. to forest and deer that will randomly stand in the middle of your walkway is a pretty damn big change for my friend, but boy is it fun to watch her freak out about being in a forest. After we went to this meeting out in the middle of nowhere at the college we hunted down this bookstore to find some of her books. The day was full of driving around trying to figure out where the heck we were going.

Sunday I went to my other friend's house to have her dye and cut my hair. I've had half blonde half-brown hair for awhile and I was pretty much over it. Since Allan left I've been wanting to change my hair and dark brown is my favorite way to go.

Ta-da!

Also this weekend I got about 3 letters from Allan! How awesome is that! And you know what could be even more awesome? A phone call! That's right, I got to hear his voice today! It made my day so much better and was exactly what I needed. He's doing well, but he's having some serious breathing problems which are a big concern. He was checked out by the doctors and had X-rays done and there isn't anything obviously wrong with them (i.e. lung cancer or something blocking his lungs), but they are worried that he has asthma. Asthma is baaaad because he'd get kicked out of the military. I think the idea of him having asthma is crap wrong. He's never had problems and he worked out like crazy before he left and he never had breathing problems. His recruiters and I think it's just him being sick/getting used to a new lifestyle and environment. I'm so proud of him for passing his swim test! If none of you knew, he didn't know how to swim until I taught him like 2 months before he left. He does say "hi" to everyone! I can't wait to see him next month!

I hope you all had a good weekend and have a great week!

Some Wonderful News!

Hey there! Long time no talk! I know, I've been slacking. I didn't really want to write anything cause I was praying I would get Allan's first letter. Wellll...I got it!

He's doing well, he says he's super tired cause they're always busy. His RDCs (recruit division commander) are super competitive so they can't get away with a single mistake which I'm sure is a lot of pressure. He was name a permanent watch person (I have really no idea what they do exactly). He's super excited for that. He also mentioned that he has to wear the horrible huge glasses they give you if you need them. Poor guy! I never knew he even had to wear glasses so it must be a big change for him. He also has to get his wisdom teeth pulled out. Ouch! Other than that he's really looking forward to graduating next month.

I can't wait to hear more from him and hopefully I'll get the next letter much sooner than 3 weeks from this one! And now that I'm not super depressed cause I haven't heard him in so long I'll make sure to blog more. It's been very odd around here, some days it feels like things are speeding by and some feel like I'm running too fast and need to chill out. I've been much better at adjusting which is awesome.

Also, can I just mention how absolutely excited I am for fall to be here!! It officially starts tomorrow and let's hope Mother Nature cooperates around here and makes it feel like fall. I've already discovered the pumpkin bin at Trader Joe's and am surprised I could restrain myself from snatching all of the baking pumpkins. I already made pumpkin pasties (excuse the odd phrase, it's British) from Harry Potter. They were fabulous and oh so delicious. I'll post pictures and a recipe next post since I'm making another batch tonight.

WIAW

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's that time of the week to join Jenn @ Peas & Crayons for What I Ate Wednesday!
Breakfast:
Greek Yogurt and a slice of pumpkin nut loaf from Trader Joe's (delicious!)

Morning Snack:
Clementines! Yum!

Lunch (no picture):
Sweet Potato Bisque from Trader Joe's & a clementine

Afternoon Snack:
Light Kettle Corn from Trader Joe's

Dinner:
The most delicious pasta dish ever! 4 cheese baked penne

Dessert:
I made homemade truffles (this is just the ganache)
But seriously, who doesn't love a big bowl of melted chocolate?
I have to take a little time to talk about how absolutely delicious that pasta dish was. It was super easy to make and very little clean-up. And that picture? That's the size of 1 portion. It's a huge amount of food for few calories. Here is the delicious recipe. Definitely a keeper!

As for Allan? I got graduation information and his mailing address, but that's it. Still no news and it's driving me nuts! And how am I holding up? Well I don't want to make this a blog of my whininess, but it's hard. I miss him everyday and some days it doesn't even feel like he's ever been around. I am holding up well and I'm trying to keep busy to make the days go by faster. Hence why I made truffles last night. I needed a necessary pick-me-up and who can be depressed around a big bowl of melted chocolate?

Pumpkin Deliciousness

It's almost fall and you know what my favorite part is (hint: the title)? PUMPKIN! I love pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pasties (Harry Potter reference), and pumpkin steamed milks. It's so delicious and of course, who doesn't love to carve them for Halloween? But you know what else is amazing about pumpkin? It's seriously nutritious. Here is an amazing article about the wonderful pluses of pumpkin. So now that it's fall, go out and eat pumpkin!

Can you tell I'm a bit obsessed with pumpkins?
